- Mary Estelle Loiterton
A former Cootamundra resident, Mrs Mary Estelle Loiterton, has died in the Woden Valley Hospital, Canberra, at the age of 92 years.
The third child in a family of 12, she was born at Muttama on August 31, 1893, to the late Edward and Annie Christina Douglass (nee Vincent).
Mrs Loiterton lived her young life on the family property Hillside, Muttama and was educated at the village school.
On July 12, 1916, she married Stephen Loiterton at Christ Church, Cootamundra, and the couple spent the greater part of their married life here, raising a family of four.
Clinton and Dudley of Cootamundra, Gwen (Mrs Davey, Canberra) and Kay (mrs Les Hulford, Cootamundra) survive their mother.
Mr and Mrs Loiterton moved to Batemans Bay 20 years ago, looking for and enjoying the temperate climate of the south coast.
After the death of her husband 10 years ago, Mrs Loiterton lived very independently on her own, until 18 months ago, when she moved to live with her daughter Gwen in Canberra.
Seven weeks ago, Mrs Loiterton suffered a severe stroke and passed away while under medical care in the Woden Valley Hospital, Canberra.
Her loves were her family, her grandchildren, and her garden.
At 92 she was aware of current topics and problems, with ready comment on some of the more controversial subjects.
Mrs Loiterton is survived by all of her own immediate family and by two sisters, Harriett, known as Ett (Mrs Loiterton, Batemans Bay) and Myra (Mrs Pettit, Sylvania), and three brothers, Charlie, Thorald (Tod) and Athol.
Brothers Clarrie, Les, Ray, and sisters Kathleen (Mrs Goodwin), Mabel and Dorothy (Mrs Watson) predeceased.
Canon Jim Tregea will conduct funeral services in Christ Church Anglican Church at 2 pm tomorrow (Tuesday) and interment will be in the Lawn Cemetery.
Smith & Rinkin are in charge of funeral arrangements
